Three Complex Cases Unraveling Officer Misconduct, Obsession, and Calculated Homicides
Investigate three separate, high-stakes criminal cases—from a police officer's wife's mysterious death to a targeted academic shooting—to see how key physical evidence overturned initial conclusions. Understand the forensic details that separate staged scenes from undeniable truth and reveal the true nature of the crimes committed.
Short Summary
- Investigators uncovered forensic inconsistencies regarding Amanda Peralt’s alleged suicide, proving the scene was staged by her police officer husband.
- Detectives tracked Kenshin Pan, the calculated MIT student who murdered Kevin Jong, after he accidentally became stuck at a scrap metal yard.
- Bud Acriman received a 45-year sentence for the murder of Davis McClendon, identified by vehicle data tracking the deadly hit-and-run.
This report details three investigations covered by "48 Hours," emphasizing how persistence in evidence review—from body positioning to vehicle metadata—led to convictions for murder when initial evidence suggested accidents or suicides. Learn the critical turning points in these disparate cases.

That medical examiner needs to lose her licence
The most dangerous time for a woman in an abusive relationship is when you try to leave. This is such a sad story.
I can't believe the autopsy report said suicide and they didn't text her hands for gunpowder. He almost walked.
Kudos to the sheriff for not just covering this up.
They didn't even swab anyone's hands????? Ridiculous!
I think she wrote that letter at gunpoint
How on earth are her hands never tested or the weapon fingerprinted?
Please STOP releasing balloons. The only one seeing them is the wildlife you are hurting.
This little girl never should have seen, heard or been told anything.
Every case that medical examiner has handled is now in question.
