Were We Wrong About the Solar Cycles? NASA Reports Extreme Activity Nobody Expected
Solar Cycle 25: Why the Sun is Acting More Powerful and Bizarre Than Predicted
Discover why predicted mild solar activity has yielded unexpectedly powerful flares, massive plasma structures, and strengthening solar winds, and learn what this highly active Sun means for Earth technology.
Short Summary
- Solar Cycle 25 arrived early and delivered double the sunspot activity NASA and NOAA initially forecast.
- Unusual phenomena like "cannibal CMEs," massive "beast" plasma clouds, and record solar tornadoes confirm extreme activity.
- Stronger solar wind and heating of the thermosphere increase drag on low-Earth orbit satellites, causing orbital decay.
- Recent studies link this intensity to the restart of a much longer, 100-year solar cycle, promising decades of heightened activity.
Anton reviews the surprising discrepancies between solar cycle predictions (based on historical trends) and the observed reality of Solar Cycle 25. He uses recent probe data and large-scale cycle theories to explain both the immediate effects on Earth’s atmosphere and the long-term outlook for space-based assets.

This illustrates the problems with relying on 'cycles' in nature: we only have a VERY TINY SNAPSHOT of time relative to the entire history of the universe. These cycles may be nothing more than short-term patterns (even a thousand years is nothing!) we just happen to be in the middle of.
Anton is like that buddy you have that is much much more intelligent than you and you just stop by to see him after work and crack open a beer and then he tries to explain to you everything new that they learned that day. I wish I had money to throw at Anton as a patreon or something. I ordered a couple t shirts, I hope he gets enough money to just do this, it makes me so happy. Especially the smile and wave endings.
Never knew your were in Quebec! My wife came in and asked what im doing... im sanding an enterprise model, I told her im sanding my spaceship listening to the space weather.
Many thanks Anton -- you are a relief from the politics and warfare on this small planet
As a Ham radio operator I see this as great news ! Sun spots are great for HF frequency propagation. And yes last cycle 24 really really sucked for HF Ham radio comms. HF Ham radio operators watch solar weather more than regular earth weather. And yes , we have been very aware cycle 25 is not even close to the prediction and pleasantly so. . CMEs and strong geo storms not so much.
If we lose the WWW bc of solar activity and turn into a post apocalyptic nightmare, please make an old school news letter and distribute it via Kevin Costner.
Anton is I'm sure everyone's most beloved science teacher. Other videos make some intriguing claims but I always come here for the facts. Thank you Anton.
My favourite science teacher on YouTube, thank you Anton ❤ been watching you since forever
There should be an award for this piece. The to smacking gorgeous images really demonstrate the enormity of the sun itself and the unbelievable power of it's weather systems. Can we see any correlation between early observations of sunspots and climate conditions, such as the " little ice age" witnessed in the 17th century, when the river Thames in England froze over?
Kudos to the designers and builders of the Parker probe 💪
