Auto manufacturers have taken planned obsolescence to a new level. There is no profit in building durable and reliable cars, what would be the point if the car be driven for a decade and hundreds of thousands of miles. . There is profit in consumers buying a new car every four or five years.

My mechanic said that if you want a reliable car, don't buy a new one that has been made after 2012. They started to introduce all kinds of gimmicks then. Like LED headlights that cost 2000 euros a piece, automatic braking, parking, etc. Nobody needs that crap. He also said that 2002-2012 Toyotas, Hondas and Volvo diesels are the best cars to buy. According to him worst are new Audis and BMW's that use plenty of plastic parts in the engine bay. Cheers.

There is a new term making the rounds that perfectly describes what is happening to every industry, every product…”shitification”.

What is shocking is all the people that think they need a new car and are willing to lose many thousands of dollars a year on depreciation and repairs to have something shiny to impress people that don’t care about them

Car companies are just like every other business - cheap poorly made products sold for outrageous prices.

It all comes down to manufacturers prioritizing two things. First, CHEAPEN the manufacturing process as much as possible. Second, raise revenues to the greatest price point possible. Also, designed for grossly limited durability.

Sorry for the double post but it seems like these new vehicles are built to be leased only.
