The murder trial of 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony began with intense public interest, as hundreds lined up outside the Collin County courthouse for a limited number of seats. Prosecutors argued Anthony provoked and fatally stabbed 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet, claiming the killing was unjustified and not an act of self-defense. Defense attorneys countered that Anthony, an honor student and athlete, acted in a split second out of fear after Metcalf made physical contact with him, while jurors viewed surveillance footage capturing the entire incident and heard emotional testimony.
