We were lucky enough to speak to Grant Wahl at the beginning of the 2022 World Cup. His kindness, dedication and passion for soccer were all evident during our conversations. We are shocked and saddened to learn of his passing, and we extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Céline, his family, and friends.
One of the things I truly appreciate about Trevor Noah and The Daily Show is how it has brought people like Roy Wood JR into our lives. People who are very intelligent and funny, and who help us face incredibly charged issues while allowing us to share in a common sense of absurdity for our foibles. Well done, and please keep it up.
I got to know Grant Wahl because of this interview, and now he’s suddenly gone. It’s honestly heartbreaking. May his family find respite soon.
I'm totally uninterested in any professional sports, but this was really worth the listen. Beyond the Scenes is one of my favs now
My parents got stuck in Russia on 9/11. They were there touring and all flights were grounded so they were stuck there for about a week longer than they planned. The Russian people were very kind to my parents when they found out that my parents were Americans and at that point the world was in shock over what happened. People offered to host them. They made friends during that time. I think we tend to judge people by their governments. I’m not into sports but this podcast is always so interesting. I’m so sorry to hear that Grant has passed. My condolences to his family.

Reading about Grant standing up for peers at SI and his bravery at the World Cup, sounds like an amazing human. RIP
