Sanna Marin - Finland’s Former PM Shares Leadership Lessons in “Hope in Action” | The Daily Show
Navigating Political Scrutiny and Finnish Governance with Sanna Marin
Learn how Finland’s unique welfare state enables access to early political leadership, and examine the double standards young female leaders face when intense public scrutiny targets personal life over policy achievements.
Short Summary
- Achieve systems that foster equal opportunity, rooted in Finland’s strong welfare and education framework.
- Recognize political necessity of coalition building and compromise over singular partisan focus.
- Identify and resist media double standards disproportionately levied against women in high office regarding personal conduct. This interview explores Sanna Marin’s tenure as the world’s youngest prime minister, detailing the practical realities of Finnish governance, including the famous "baby box." Jordan Klepper contrasts this system with American political realities, specifically focusing on how diverse backgrounds and youth can thrive when structured opportunity exists.

I think Jordan missed the joke about the two meter distancing, she was saying their personal space is greater than two meters and was complaining that the government wanted them to get closer, as close as two meters.
The host didn’t understand that the 2 meters was too close for Finns 😂
As a Finn, my first bed was that baby box that she was talking about.
One Finnish core value that isn't mentioned often enough is honesty. It is fundamental basis of trust and success in society, relationships, science and in all kind of problem solving.
"We love coffee, and we hate people." I've.. I've found my people...
That 2 meter joke went straight over Jordan’s head huh.
"We're quite famous for how very humble we are." Finnish dry humour.
America can learn so much from the rest of the world, and needs to
"We love coffee and hate people." I'm sold.
In Chile 🇨🇱 is the same! All new babies get a big basket gift plus free milk for until they 13 years old! Isn’t that amazing for such a small country!!
