A teenager was at odds with his mom after moving to Florida to live with her in 2024. Collin Griffith previously lived with his father, Charles Robert Griffith, in Oklahoma, before the then-15-year-old shot him in self-defense on Valentine’s Day in 2023. One year later, the teen’s mother, Catherine Griffith, died from a fatal stab wound in the home of Colin’s grandmother. The 17-year-old called 911 and told police his mother lunged at him with a knife and fell on it. Collin was charged with murder and kidnapping, which a jury would later find him not guilty of.
