Thank you Prof. In answer to the question of why Dante populated the lower circle of hell with giants, Dante explicitly states in Canto 31 that Nature was "just and discreet" to stop creating these monsters — because when the "argument of intellect" is combined with "evil will and power," humanity would have no rampart or defense against them. He contrasts the giants with massive beasts that Nature still produces, like elephants and whales — because those animals lack malicious human-like intellect and evil will, they do not pose the same existential threat to mankind. "Nature acted well indeed, depriving Mars of instruments like these. And if she still produces elephants and whales, whoever sees with subtlety holds her—for this— to be more just and prudent; for where the mind’s acutest reasoning is joined to evil will and evil power, there human beings can’t defend themselves. " Their role is a reminder that power exercised in evil is the ultimate banishable offense. Dante places the giants at the very depths of the Inferno, ringing the central pit of the Ninth Circle like massive towers — eternal monuments to the arrogant rebellion of power against the divine. Nimrod's ambition to build the Tower of Babel brought about the confusion of human languages. Ephialtes waged war against the gods themselves. Shackled and frozen, they prove that no amount of brute force or corrupted intellect can overcome divine justice.
LOVE YOU PROFESSOR KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!
Thank you professor. I APPRECIATE YOU
I love the dynamic of the students' contributions; it’s truly enriching. The level has really gone up.
Looking forward to enjoy the second half of the series with nuisance gone
Interestingly Dante’s homosexual logic correlates with the smooth beautiful mouse groups in Calhoun’s Universe 25 experiment
I’ve really enjoyed this series 💐🙌🏼 Thank you 🙏🏼
