This compilation goes beyond simple appearances of deities, focusing instead on those recurring moments where scientific understanding confronts something that feels inherently spiritual, mystical, or simply too vast for the human mind to fully process without being fundamentally shaken. As we've discussed before, this is a constant theme in sci-fi. Science serves as our tool for understanding reality, yet there's a parallel human need for meaning, purpose, or transcendence, or at least the comforting idea that a hidden structure underlies the apparent chaos of existence. What's intriguing is that many historical sci-fi writers have been materialists, yet the genre remains deeply engaged with ideas of religion and godhood. However, within the framework of science fiction, the "God" archetype is manifested in diverse ways. πŸ‘½ Please consider supporting this channel on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ideasoficeandfire or PAYPAL - https://paypal.me/QuinnsIdeas?locale.x=en_US 🎨 Art: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/nQ9XL9 🎡 Music: https://www.youtube.com/@JamezDahlMusic πŸ“š Get These Books! I prefer the cosmic horror form because you can't blame something that never considered you in the first place, it would be like an ant blaming a highway

1:55:21 Frankenstein isn’t punished for his creation, he’s punished for depriving his creation of life’s necessities. The monster was perfectly capable of living out a happy existence, but Frankenstein and many others stripped him of his dignity and showed him only cruelty. Victor β€œplayed god” by creating life but failed to take responsibility in nurturing it. He was punished for his abandonment, not necessarily for the creation itself.

I enjoy the Star Trek take on this, where actual God's turn up frequently and people are generally just annoyed by them and want them to go away.

The Nine Billion Names story reminds me of the thought that there are people that prey for the sun to come up every day, and you wouldn't be able to tell them that their efforts are wasted since their ritual coincides with the sun coming up without fail, in the observable present.
