Taco Bell worker here, you WILL get your food MUCH sooner in the drive-thru than going inside. We get timed on drive-thru orders and not on inside orders for metrics, so if we have to choose, we're prioritizing drive-thru over other orders.
In my area there is an 80% chance that any given fast food place you go to will either have their lobby closed or they will refuse to serve you and force you through the drive thru if you go at any hours that aren't EXACTLY at lunch or dinner. It's really sad.
I think there's also something to be said about removing third places for people to sit and rest and have a meal like a real human being, and this adversely affecting homeless or poor people. Libraries close and don't offer food, but a Mcdonalds does and it may have wifi or outlets to charge their devices. By removing dining rooms, we're possibly hurting poor people.
I'm disabled, and drive-thru/drive-in service is a huge boon for me. Transferring in and out of my wheelchair is a whole rigamorole, and I greatly appreciate it when I can avoid it. See also: Mr. Ng from Snow Crash.
As a parent with two young kids, i LOVE drive thru. Getting both kids out, waiting inside and going back in the car with the food is a hassle.
tbh I worked in a ghost kitchen briefly, and I think that's the worst job I've ever had. ghost kitchens will not solve the extremely high employee turnover rate. ghosts are not making your food. even if they were, they'd quit too
I remember eating inside fast food places all the time. I think they got rid of the "play areas". Back in the day your parents could eat and kids could run around. That made eating inside a good activity for fast food.
I have a compromised immune system and drive throughs and curbside pickup are a godsend.
As a mom with two littles, drive throughs make my life so much easier. I don’t have to unload both kids, hold my toddlers hand in the parking lot and carry the infant car seat in my other hand. Keeping both kids contained in my car, with AC, fun music/podcast on is WAY easier when I’m solo parenting
I'm with Josh on this on why eat fast food.
