John Humphrey and Jon Maturan rev up their reaction and review of Pixar’s 2006 animated classic Cars, a high-energy, heartwarming story about speed, humility, and finding purpose off the beaten path. The film follows hotshot rookie race car Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson, Wedding Crashers, Midnight in Paris), whose obsession with winning lands him stranded in the forgotten desert town of Radiator Springs on the way to the Piston Cup Championship. What begins as an inconvenience slowly becomes a life-changing detour as Lightning learns the value of friendship, community, and slowing down to appreciate the journey. Along the way, Lightning forms an unlikely bond with wise tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy, Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector, Cars 2), sparks a romance with determined attorney Sally Carrera (Bonnie Hunt, Jumanji, Toy Story 4), and gains mentorship from legendary racer Doc Hudson (Paul Newman, Cool Hand Luke, The Hustler). Packed with iconic moments like Lightning’s crash on Route 66, Mater’s hilarious tractor-tipping escapades, Doc’s reveal as the Hudson Hornet, and the emotional Piston Cup finale, Cars blends laugh-out-loud humor with Pixar’s signature emotional storytelling. We break down the film’s themes of legacy, ego, and redemption, why Radiator Springs remains one of Pixar’s most memorable worlds, and how Cars became a beloved franchise for generations of fans. #Cars #PixarCars #LightningMcQueen #PixarMovie #AnimatedMovies #FamilyMovies #MovieReaction #PixarAnimation #OwenWilson #PaulNewman #LarryTheCableGuy #NASCAR #Cars2 #Cars3 #React #ReactTo #Reaction Zootopia (2025) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/yh2KqmIBW48 Coco (2017) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/nrHn_m_N82k Finding Nemo (2003) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/NvnD-yyLPAg Inside Out 2 (2024) Movie Reaction: https://youtu.be/qljF3WE7rGE 0:00 Checking In! 2:11 CARS Reaction 35:14 HUEL 36:55 CARS Movie Reaction 1:11:00 CARS Review Follow Jon Maturan: https://www.instagram.com/jonmaturan/?hl=en Intense Suspense by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ RR Clips & Shorts Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ReelRejectsClips Follow TheReelRejects On The Socials: IG: https://www.instagram.com/reelrejects/ TT: https://www.tiktok.com/@thereelrejects?lang=en TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thereelrejects FB: https://www.facebook.com/TheReelRejects/ Music Used In Ad: Hat the Jazz by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Happy Alley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Head Editor: https://www.instagram.com/prapermedia Supervising Producer: https://twitter.com/nerdchronic?lang=en Co-Editor: Greg Alba Co-Editor: John Humphrey Music In Video: Airport Lounge - Disco Ultralounge by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow & Listen to Us Wherever You Get Your Podcasts!! - Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3XHMwbveiznxSOGxN9XT0M - Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vc3Rhci13YXJzLXRhbGs - Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-reel-rejects-tv-movie-recaps/id1616339990 - Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Apocalypse-Podcast/B08JJP58FG Ask Us A QUESTION On CAMEO: https://www.cameo.com/thereelrejects Follow GREG On INSTAGRAM & TWITTER: INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/thegregalba/ TWITTER: https://twitter.com/thegregalba PLAYLISTS: Trailer Reactions & Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw9ZsLdoAQFpx38s2hhyFgDe Movie Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw-comtadVs8b9JsZEWHUyr8 Movie Talk (News, Spoiler Reviews, & Film Rumors!!!): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw8fPQ-21NVSb2IOwIiHbVt8 Youtube Video Reactions & Discussions: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw_qwcPsN_vOxXC6IVzrOQYG Sketches & Short Films: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw_zWuTRfBOUP3aYyIYRzc2y

RIP Paul Newman, voice of Doc Hudson. This was his final movie role before his death. A legendary note to go out on, I'd say.

Random detail, but in the UK version, McQueen's agent is Jeremy Clarkson, and in the US it's Jeremy Piven The Johns reacted to Piven's voice but Clarkson's voice is in the edit

13:28 Hearing Jeremy Clarkson as Harv here was super surprising! Most Cars reaction I've seen are usually the US version so seeing a UK version reaction was really pleasing. Gotta love Jezza man

I know it’s obvious as an adult - but this movie being a 2 hour training montage for Lightening both on the track and off is great. From a sports movie standpoint: 1) he trains with resistance via repairing the street 2) he trains technique via the dirt race 3) he trains reaction and speed with mater and cow tipping 4) he trains networking skills via the towns’ friendliness and community 5) he trains in remembering why he loved the sport via driving with sally through the mountains 6) he trains in humility after seeing a legend and what ended his career 7) so the pay off at the end feels earned because he was always number 1 (in our hearts).

Screw it I'm gonna say it! This is the best soundtrack in Pixar's lineup. Real gone, life is a highway, our town, rout 66, the main theme, it's all so GOOD! 🎸

Couple fun facts for y'all: 1. Strip "The King" Weathers is both based off of and voiced by Richard "The King" Petty, a retired NASCAR driver who raced from '58 to '92. He's known by most NASCAR fans as the greatest NASCAR driver due to his absolutely obscene stats lineup including but not limited to: 7 Championships, 200 Wins and nearly 50K laps lead. 2. The commentators Darrel Cartrip and Bob Cutlass are both voice by real life commentators Darrel Waltrip, who's a NASCAR commentator and former driver, and Bob Costas, a MLB commentator.

the crash at 1:03:31 is a callback to one of the crashes that Richard Petty (voice of The King here) had back in the 80s. he had a couple of massive crashes where the car flipped 5+ times. his racing number was 43, he raced most of his career under STP Oils, which Dinoco mirrors here, and his most famous car was the 1969-70 Plymouth Superbird "wing car" painted in TB3 Chrysler blue, later on dubbed "Petty Blue." many of the race cars and announcers are actual drivers and announcers and retired drivers from NASCAR and the various broadcasters. Darrel Cartrip is Darrel Waltrip, he and his brother Michael were big racers in the 1970s-80s, and both went into broadcasting after they hung up their helmets
