Become a Client: https://nomadcapitalist.com/apply/ For the last decade, Dubai was the default answer for expats who wanted lower taxes and a good lifestyle. But that's quietly changing. Clients are now asking about a different option, the old Dubai of the 1960s and 1970s. Monaco. On paper it checks every box. No income tax, no capital gains tax, no wealth tax, in the heart of Europe, and one of the safest places in the world. But Monaco isn't trying to be accessible to everyone. With barely one square kilometer of land, it's filtering harder than ever. Here's who Monaco actually works for, what the entry requirements really look like, and whether this throwback option deserves a place on your radar in 2026. Monaco so small you'll die from boredom after 3 days.

Keep in mind Monaco has become a nightmare for compliance, KYC, etc. It is under surveillance from the French authorities, French customs, etc. Required paperwork for every is really bad. It’s impossible to move money in and out of the country. Even leaving personal stuff in a hotel safe at reception requires paperwork. Casinos no longer accept / pay you in cash. Far from ideal, increasingly.

For a billionaire, Monaco is a great place to put your superyacht mansion and invite all the ladies. For everybody else, forget it.

Fun for a weekend but one feels like you're in a James Bond movie from the 70s and not a good overall long term expenditure imho

When I was cycling the Mediterranean I wanted to visit Monaco, but it's so small that I cycled straight past it without realising I had missed it.

As an American born in NYC I was sent to Monaco as a Stock Broker and lived and worked there for almost 7 years. I even got married there too. I had to leave when my Brokerage Company got bought out. The saddest day of my Life. I loved living here. I would go back in a heartbeat.
