Description

In this Huberman Lab Essentials episode, I explore the sensations of pain and pleasure, explaining how they are sensed in the body and interpreted by the brain as well as methods to control their intensity. I discuss both the hardwired mechanisms and subjective factors that shape an individual’s perception of pain and pleasure. I also explain why pain thresholds vary from person to person and discuss various treatments for pain management such as acupuncture and supplements. Finally, I explain the role of key neurochemicals like dopamine and serotonin in mediating our experience of pain and pleasure. not gonna lie, i felt numb for months. like i was just surviving, not really living. then someone dropped Testosterone Rewired by David Brooks in a yt comment and i gave it a shot. bro… this book gave me my edge back. not by yelling at me to hustle, but by showing me how to fix my foundation. life hits different now.

Thank you Huberman Lab Team. Has your team considered doing an episode on the science benefits of water? Being around water, in water, benefits of swimming, hearing water, seeing water. The book "The Blue Mind" by Wallace Nichols references studies about why humans gravitate towards bodies of water, how seeing/watching/hearing water can be good for our nervous system and the brain. I'd love to understand the benefits of swimming versus other forms of exercise. This could be a new dimension for Andrew, since I know he doesn't talk about swimming as part of his exercise routine. Thanks for considering!
