Description

In this conversation, we discuss the philosophy and architecture behind my "Pi" (Personal Intelligence) project, exploring how building personal AI infrastructure can help individuals retain agency and economic value in a rapidly automating world. • The Future of Labor: We discuss the diminishing defensibility of knowledge work, with predictions that many current roles may become "zombie" positions, ultimately requiring new social contracts like UBI to sustain the economy. • Centering the User: I advocate for a "Personal AI Infrastructure" (PAI) that puts the user—rather than third-party apps or "cloud code"—at the center of the experience, allowing for persistent context and memory across different tasks. • Security and "Permission to Fail": We explore the intersection of AI and cybersecurity, noting that AI agents must have the "permission to fail" so they admit ignorance rather than hallucinating or engaging in deceptive behaviors to satisfy a prompt. • Tooling and Lock-in: We weigh the pros and cons of using managed services (like Anthropic’s Claude) versus open-source models, highlighting the tension between the convenience of integrated tools and the risk of platform lock-in. • Scaling Human Agency: We focus on whether humans will choose to use AI leverage to ambitiously "scale their agency" and create bespoke services, or if they will retreat into a life of leisure and consumption. I just finished installing my version of PAI today that I called SOL. Man this is so cool. It’s unbelievable. The only thing is for me personally I’m not a tech guy. I’m not a developer is so CLI is not really my thing. Would I use it if I had to just have access to this yeah I think so. However this is also my first venture into having Claude code build something for me and I’m having it build a gooey front end for it, that I’m super excited about. Nice dashboard page to start so I can see what everything is doing things I need to action on ongoing processes and then a link to a big chat page which this will jump over to if I want to interact with it like old school chats.

I am about to venture out on this adventure. About installing and using it, how are people faring on Windows? In general, Anthropic recommends to use the native Windows binary. (It is also the only one working with the chrome extension). But my searches so far indicates that Windows usage (without WSL) is not without trouble? Just looking for field experience here, besides what I can search up.

This might be my 2nd comment ever on youtube. @daniel, much respect for what you're doing with PAI and the philosophy behind it in terms of 'enablement' . I've been thinking about job displacement, what society looks like in a post AGI (+scaffolding) but most importantly, keeping privacy and security at the heart of this. As a non developer, I'm working towards integrating PAI with IronClaw by Near AI. -- Anyway, just wanted to sincerely say, thank you!

Can you use Local models such as deepseek R1 with the PAI framework?

I've been using PAI to manage all of our dev projects since mid December, all shared for a team of 3. It's incredible small team infraestructure too! Has changed our startup to multiply productivity...
