Stop spending time talking about Mangione's appearance. Start talking about the health insurance nightmare we all face and what we can do to change things. Actually change things. Not "vote and work together." What bills should we ask our representatives to write or sponsor or support? What existing efforts are healthcare justice organizations focusing on? Use your platform to help. I know you're a comedy show, but so is Last Week Tonight, and they manage to have a "What do we do" segment.
Is anyone else a bit disappointed that even the Daily Show is avoiding the elephant in the room? We all know why this happened, but it seems like the NEWS and even this show is avoiding talking about how messed up the US healthcare system is and how that is the cause for what happened. Where is Jon's typical rant, the one where he points out the absurdity of people not talking about the real issue American's are facing?
I never really comment on YouTube videos but the commentary on Luigi Mangione is so weird/clearly misses the mark?? The man he shot wasn't just a "CEO of a Fortune 500 company"--he was the CEO of a multibillion dollar insurance company that's notorious for denying claims and treatment and forcing millions of Americans to be denied coverage, go bankrupt, or live with chronic pain. And it's respectable that he says that he's not the foremost expert on the subject. He's not saying "I don't really know what I'm talking about" so much as "there are experts who are much more qualified to go more in depth on this that should be given a platform." It's unusual for a 'manifesto' to NOT be extreme and NOT spew fringe/hateful beliefs, which is why sensible language seems off.
Notice how every tv host is talking about his looks and not the fact we all agree on his healthcare system opinions?
You left out big chunks of the manifesto even thought it wasn’t long. Like the part where he cites Michael Moore and Dr. Elizabeth Rosenthal, who’ve both extensively documented the damage this system has done. It really seems like this coverage is trying to make this event and the public’s reaction seem less substantial than it is. Him being a baddie is just a bonus: it’s about the system.
Media trying to GASLIGHT us to think we only care about this because the UHC shooter is attractive is another level. History in making.
Well, he got closer to eating the rich than any of us got.
I love how hard you guys are trying to make this about his appearance, disregarding the fact that people were cheering him on when they didn't even know how he looked. It has nothing to do with appearance and everything to do with health insurance companies being blatantly evil.
Talking only about his looks is the best way to ignore his message.
Media: "haha Luigi's hot." The poors: "haha Luigi's right."
