In this third segment, Dr. Sharma introduces gamma delta T cells — what they are, how they recognise senescent cells through a completely different mechanism to NK cells, and what his lab found when they tested them against senescent cells in the lab. The results were striking: gamma delta T cells cleared senescent cells faster and more selectively than any other immune cell they tested. He also shares early mouse data showing that transplanting healthy gamma delta T cells reduced both senescent cell burden and lung fibrosis — with potentially broad implications for fibrotic diseases.
