At the age of 23, my partner was given an $80,000 medical bill, because her insurance would not cover the surgery she needed to correct a botched procedure from her childhood. The hospital then refused to continue her treatment for her chronic condition until she paid off her medical debt. This is not a left or a right issue, Ben. This is a people’s issue.

I am a born and raised Texan conservative. My family runs off a teacher's salary, and I have never lived in anything more luxurious that a trailer home. This should not be manufactured into a right vs left thing. A few years ago, my brother came down with bacterial meningitis. It got so bad that the hospital we drove hours to get him to told us that if we did not get him to another hospital that specialized in treating the disease, he would have permanent brain damage and possibly could die. They got him on a lifelight and took a 30-minute trip to the other hospital. That 30-minute trip that was necessary for his survival, or at very least necessary for his brain function, was $80,000. None of that was covered by insurance, and that's not even getting into the medical expenses that came after, when they tried to deny us coverage on medication because the doctors thought it was the wrong kind of meningitis. I almost had to give up college, even with scholarships, to try and help pay all that off. That's not all. My close cousin has cystic fibrosis. She cannot live normally like the rest of us without a highly regimented routine of medicines and therapies. Now, the insurance she's had almost her entire life has suddenly decided they're going to stop covering some of the medicines she needs to live a normal life. Years of coverage, and now nothing. I'm tired of the rich and powerful telling me what my morals should be. The system is broken. You can not expect a broken system to bring these people to justice. I keep seeing these influencers and journalists asking, "What made this guy go crazy?" and "Who radicalized him?" I can tell you exactly who radicalized him because they radicalized me too.
