Over the next six weeks we'll be breaking down the series to talk about everything you need to know. I'm ashamed...and slightly proud to say I've read Dune 7 times this year and I've gone through all the sequels and the house series prequels. I am in love with the universe and can't wait to talk to you guys about it. Make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss the breakdowns and hit the thumbs up if you enjoy it. If you want a catchup on the films after this video we also have a 2 hour indepth analysis of both parts. However what I like about the series is that you don't really need to know any of that. Dune Prophecy is a prequel to the story and it takes place 10,000 years prior. Now in the Dune-iverse years are counted as being AG. This is after the spacing guild was formed and they created space travel. No one knows exactly how that translates to our time as the appendicies state slightly different dates. The universe also works on a standard calendar so theyre able to account for all the different planets. Earth takes 24 hours to spin on it's axis and thus thats a day on our planet. Somewhere like Arrakis would be completely different so they had to come up with a standarised clock. The Universal calendar is actually 20 hours shorter than an earth year and they also dont mention leap years. So over thousands of years this mounts up and Dune part 1 is roughly at 23,000 AD. Dune part 1 takes place in roughly 10191 so with this being 10,000 years prior you get us at rougly 191. We do get some text later on that places this 10,148 years before his birth but no exact specific year is given.
