One problem is that labourers can hardly afford a backyard in which to think from anymore. Before North America lost tens of thousands of factories through globalization, men hustled at jobs in their communities, could afford to raise a family, and had stake in society. Hustle culture isn’t doing much to rebuild Detroit, Gary Indiana, Youngstown Ohio, and the list goes on.
That sitting down reading enjoying a cigar moment has always made me feel guilty, I’m always in this mindset of “I should be doing this I should be doing that, I need to do this I need to do that.” As if my what’s supposed to be relaxation just fuels my anxiety. You feel like you waste time by relaxing but you feel like you’re wasting life by working all the time.
Damn. I worked with Dwayne for a few months in Marshall NC. Was definitely a good man. Couldn't believe when I found out he had a channel. He's absolutely the same in person just so everyone knows.
Whos gonna carry the TV remote and the Cigars!!!
I’ve been workshopping this theory that “Hustle Culture” is the “Impossible Beauty Standard” equivalent for men. We see rich ripped men on social media who are getting up at 4am to grind and no matter how much you do, you could always be better. Dewayne is a welcome voice of “It’s alright to be who you are and be where you are in life. Find contentment in that.” I think I need that message these days.
Balance and grounded. Get centered and focus on what matters. Real Family, real friends, real food , real water and real shelter (don’t buy a overly priced house for status, be strategic) then kick back and watch the fake show. Be the creator not the consumer. The more of us that say no to the bullshit, the game will be over. You got this fellas 🦁
Finally a podcast with actual wisdom.

I love when he talks about just genuinely asking the checkout lady how she is. This stuff does improve the world. The little things we can do make a difference.
