My parents have been married for 50 years, the one piece of advice that they gave me was protect the respect in the relationship. The feelings will come and go, but a lack of respect will strangle any relationship.

I've heard what Arthur discussed in this clip before in other podcasts with psychologists and such, but the level of simplicity he broke it down into was far more easy to digest than I have experienced before. Thank you for your work.
Sometimes contempt is frustration making the tone of voice more negative than it should be - my kids have pointed this out to me
I love how clear this conversation is and fear our politics are showing our children "we love but they hate"

some did an expetiment with 40 000 happy couples and realised that ....falling in love and butterflues in stomach isnt the thing that makes the relationship last..... . but being able to see the insecurities , vulnarability, and opinions and point of view is the thing that creates strong bond... like helping each other, understanding each other etc... that its not about being submissive to the partner but understanding the partner's ideas and opinions and vulnerabilities and learning to grow.
You not only need to adore and be admirable. You also need to be adored. Don't waste your life if the other person won't work on theirs.
