"I don't need your money. But I need you to earn more money than me so I can choose you."
A few thoughts from an old man approaching 80. Women becoming unhappy as they age is nothing new. Western culture has too many quotes such as "A married woman can't wait to change her husband; a married man wishes she'd stay the same" or "Happy Wife, Happy Life" that have been around forever. Relationships only flourish with honesty, trust, kindness, personal responsibility, shared interests and a strong commitment to the partnership. Looking to your partner to 'complete' you and to make them responsible for your happiness will fail because it's parasitic. Using hypergamy, choosing a man based on his looks, status or earning potential, is a lousy strategy because while a woman might enjoy the financial benefits that might come with it, by age 50 she'll become disenchanted with her empty life. As for the man, he'll be weary of feeling like nothing more than a servant with a paycheck. So whether you're a man or woman, only get into relationships after you've both figured out you have a strong commitment to each other based on shared values and interests. Otherwise, stay single.
Because they don’t take responsibility for themselves and blame others. Taking responsibility is empowering. I do that and am pretty happy. Gratefulness also helps.
We don't need to "find a new model of masculinity," we need to call out the toxic hate of masculinity.
The question I don't hear being asked anywhere: Why would any man want to provide for someone who's entitled, ungrateful & arrogant? Zero motivation to do that.
Modern women : All risks and liabilities , no benefits.
Young man stays in school, graduates college, gets a job, works hard, dates, gets married, buys a home, has kids, gets wrecked by divorce and family courts... yeah role models will fix it.
Like you said the other day, Chris: men not doing well, "women most affected" - pull the other one, women have never, ostensibly, had it better.
The culture of toxic compassion has added to the problem where emotions trump anything else well above doing the right thing
