because it is irresponsible to have children when you are just one paycheck away from being homeless?
This "problem" isn't going to be "solved." There will simply be fewer people, and we will have to adjust in order to continue to improve standards of living.
Something that doesn't get enough coverage is the reduction in the extended family cohesion. As a kid i remember being close to cousins, 2nd cousins, aunts, uncles etc, all living within a 15 minute drive. I knew everyone on our street. It was easy to find a babysitter, or get a ride to school. People didn't move house as much and stayed in the same job longer. You never felt alone or far from help.
1. Urbanization 2. Rising costs of living, stagnating wages 3. Social media
The vast majority of couples are barely affording rent and food, not even owning. How tf do you expect people to spend more on a kid?
Having a child with the wrong person can and will ruin your life. My husband ,and I vetted each other for six years. I don't want to be a single mother and he doesn't want a broken family.
Living in studio apartments, 2 people income needed to survive, working 10h and commuting and a lunch break not included in the working hours..... Good luck
I say let the birth rate fall. We're at 8 billion people. The fact that we have an economic system built on constant growth is the problem.
People have a choice now whether to have kids and it turns out a ton of people don't want them. Go figure.
