Vin owns the Riddick role like Downey for Ironman and Snipes for Blade. For me, its his best character on screen, even over Toretto.
Now u gotta watch the rest..Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick
The point of her dying was to show Riddick that even he was worth dying for. That's why he yelled "Not for me!"
Fun fact: the scene where Riddick dislocates his shoulders to free himself from captivity wasn't an effect. Diesel can *actually* dislocate his shoulders and did so in filming. I do think they added some visual effects after the fact to make the dislocation seem more extreme but he did do it for the movie.
It should also be noted that Riddick doesn't really have a character arc in this movie until the very end, he doesn't change during most of the movie, just our understanding of him does. Carolyn however does. She was willing to kill ALL the passengers in the beginning to save herself and by the end was willing to die herself to save everyone left. THAT'S what Riddick found so interesting about her at the end.
In addition to her death being a possible atonement for trying to purge the passengers in the beginning of the movie, her death had a lasting impact on Riddick himself. No one had ever done anything for him, or selflessly sacrificed themselves for him before. Hence him yelling "Not for me!". It changes him quite a bit.
Darkest scenes in 'Pitch Black' are still 80% brighter than the entire AVP - Requiem movie
Pitch Black was an independent film that took hold, which allowed it to get into major theaters. It was Vin Diesel's first breakout movie roll, so glad it worked out for him. He also has a twin brother.
I think her death does fundamentally change Riddick. He was going to leave them…his mind is changed by her proving she was worth saving in his eyes. When she dies for him he is changed. That “not for me” is legitimate sentiment. That the man he was…the one who would have left…wasn’t worth dying for. When he says “tell them Riddick is dead. He dies back there on that planet”…he means it. He flies off looking to be a man her life could be worth going forward.
"Flares have been known to last as long as an action sequence." Best line in the reaction!
