Although beef, chicken, pork, and other meats are relatively low in vitamin D, the carnivore diet can still help correct vitamin D deficiency. Simply taking more vitamin D doesn’t always solve the problem. Vitamin D depends on several important cofactors, including magnesium, zinc, vitamin K2, retinol, and cholesterol, the raw material used to make vitamin D in the body. Vitamin D enters your cells through the vitamin D receptor. Vitamin D receptor resistance is very common, often caused by obesity, insulin resistance, and poor gut health. Meat is a potent source of highly bioavailable nutrients, especially the cofactors needed for vitamin D. Many plant foods contain antinutrients that can interfere with nutrient absorption. Vitamin D is made from cholesterol, so inadequate cholesterol intake can also impact vitamin D production. The carnivore diet helps to reduce gut inflammation, increase autophagy, improve bile flow, reduce SIBO, and eliminate candida overgrowth, all of which support better vitamin D absorption and overall health. I’m mostly clean keto in my eating. I eat real meat that I cook to my liking. I add a bit of low glycemic vegetables sometimes. I make my own yogurt and add fresh berries. I exercise regularly. At 70 I am healthier than I was at 40. Thanks to YouTube doctors I have reversed health issues that I was told were not reversible both for myself and my husband. So thank you for all the information you share for free. You are a treasure.

I have been carnivore for nearly 4 years now and at 63 I have been able to get off of three prescription meds and lost 70 pounds and maintained it for over 3 years now. My vitamin D level was 90 when it was checked in January although I know that in the bloodstream is not the best way to measure it. No more acid reflux, no more high bp and sleep meds because I could not sleep for years as I traveled for work and spent too many nights in hotels. I agree that a healthy gut is the key to vitamin D.
