Roman is crushing all of Brian's arguments based on consciousness and human exceptionalism, I'm loving it! :D
Roman started his career trying to prove AI could be made safe — and ended up proving the opposite. Not "hard." He says mathematically impossible. What do you say? 📬 Transcript + my Monday M.A.G.I.C. Message → briankeating.com/yt Here's the steelman for the other side: David Deutsch says humans are universal explainers, so no problem — including control — is forever closed to us. Roman's reply is that you can't predict, verify, or test a mind running non-deterministic states you can't even survey. The 3 moments I'd re-watch: ▸ 1:34 — Why you're the squirrel in this story ▸ 23:06 — The halting problem comes for superintelligence ▸ 1:07:58 — The button he'd actually press If control really is unsolvable, is a permanent ban rational — or do we build it anyway? Pick one and defend it. 👇
Dr Yampolskiy was ahead of his time in predicting the risk we now live in
Fantastic, I saw Dr Yampolskiy walking around when I was on vacation and stopped dead in my tracks as I was walking. Biggest regret is not shaking his hand and thanking him personally for his research and efforts. Maybe next time I’m in the area. The simulation will let us cross paths again haha.
What a wonderful conversation. Thank you for sharing.
I'm listening to this completely stoned. At around 45th minute i got literal chills. "I am addicted to this AI"; "I have never worked harder" - doesnt that sound like those sci-fi movies that were to warn us about dangers of technology?
Brian, you are really an excellent interviewer! ✌🏼🌎😎🙏🏼
Wow! Roman is so clear, while being so complex. I envy anyone who gets to chat with him in private.
Cool chat! I find the tight edits a little distracting though. It creates an unnatural feeling to the back and forth conversation.
Great discussion! The crisis in information theory is deeply analyzed in the paper 'THE CRISIS OF INFORMATION VERIFICATION: THE HAND, THE NETWORK, AND THE PROBLEM OF KNOWLEDGE GROUNDING'. Highly recommend it to everyone exploring AI epistemology.
