Description

A neuroscientist built an AI that refuses to give answers — and it outperformed every model on the market, including the ones trained on billions of users’ data. The implication: every AI that hands you the answer may be quietly making you less capable of thinking without it. Dr. Vivienne Ming is a neuroscientist, AI researcher, and author of Robot Proof, who has spent nearly 30 years building machine learning systems and studying what makes humans irreplaceable alongside them. We cover: -why the 5–10% of people who argue with AI outperform both elite human forecasters and top AI models -what GPS is already doing to your memory and why GPT may be next -the "Sexy Face" game that was secretly training a neural network to reunite orphan refugees -why the information explosion paradox means more free answers lead to less human exploration — even among scientists. Giving you the answer is almost the worst thing these machines can do. i don't think she quite gets that it's very possible she's going to be obsolete. this isn't AI's final state. this is the worst it'll ever be.

When she picked up her award, her eyes blinked 3 times instantly uploading the image into her programming.

There was a pretty cool clip from a standup comedian a couple of years ago, pre-AI who complained that with google, knowing something now feels exactly like not knowing something. The way we reach an answer - or fail - is what is meaningful most of the time. (There are mundane exceptions - if I'm looking for my credit card number, I don't want a treasure hunt.)

Smart conversation. Plenty of themes to dive deep. I'll add just this. I don't have an academic education but I was never stumped by the art of thinking which ultimately is what's really makes a difference in people's lives. Btw everything discussed here isn't new for me either. Not being published.. not even going through the same particular narrative of the speakers. Just food for thought.. more you live more you realize how really diverse is the capacity of human thought and mind.. And yes neuroscience and behavioral science is a good start or roadmap to follow in order to better understand your own knowledge..

Thank you for this. I hope I live long enough to speak to someone who knows more about deriving everything in the universe with zero free parameters and what that might mean for whatever it is that we call reality. Keep up the great work.
