Description

Most people think they’re a single individual making rational decisions, but Stanford Neuroscientist, Dr. David Eagleman, explains that you are actually multiple people in one brain. A brain that tricks each version of you in different ways! Dr. David Eagleman is a Stanford neuroscientist, technologist, and author who examines how our brain interprets the world and what that means for us. He is known for his work on brain plasticity, perception, and how the brain adapts to external inputs. He is the cofounder of Neosensory and BrainCheck, as well as director of the Center for Science and Law. He is also an international bestselling author of books such as 'Livewired: The Inside Story of the Ever-Changing Brain. He explains: ◼️How your brain tricks you to keep you safe ◼️How to outsmart your own brain when it's working against you ◼️Why doing hard things physically rewires the brain ◼️Why we dream, and what dreams may actually be doing for the brain ◼️How to use AI to make you smarter instead of letting it make you lazy 00:00:00 Intro 00:02:32 Why The Brain Became My Obsession 00:03:29 How To Actually Break Bad Habits (And Why Most People Fail) 00:07:36 What You’ve Been Getting Wrong About The Brain 00:11:32 Fluid Vs. At 16:00, this really only applies to extroverts. Those of us who are introverts are actually RELIEVED not to have forced interactions with people after retirement! And if we have hobbies or enjoy learning new ones, we are quite happy & content to spend our days alone.

I think dreaming is a mechanism to wake you up. You always wake up shortly after and realize you have to pee.

I dream frequently, and always in color. Some of my dreams are pleasant, but most many of my dreams have been terrifying and extremely vivid! Dreams have meaning and purpose that no man will ever really know, in my opinion

Steve Jobs said it was a bicycle for the mind but he also did not allow any of his children to use any of the devices he created because he believed they were too dangerous for their development. Interesting

That may be one tiny reason why we dream to help maintain structure, but there are a dozen other HUGE reasons he’s missing. I kinda feel sorry for him thinking that is the “big reason” why we dream.

This is a very optimistic view of AI that discounts the human factor in controlling the information that comes from the AIs themselves.

I realize that I'm only about 1/2 way through this but you caught my attention with why we didn't remember dreams and so far I haven't heard one word about dreams
