If you have used the turbos hard, always let the engine run for about 30 seconds to 1 minute before turning the car off.
Turbochargers have been around since......1905, and people still make it seem like they are something new and exotic. And yes a turbo on a Kia is not going to have the same level of RnD as that on a Porsche or BMW. In t he end it comes down to proper cooling. Good video.
Key takeaway: “Get a Ferrari turbo and put it in your Hynday”
I have a brand new m340i and its nice knowing that I am the only owner maintaining it as it should be. Did oil geeks recommended break in oil change intervals, and always do rhe warm up and cooling period for the turbo. I dont plan on doing any DME flash tunes once they figure out the unlock, but I do want to add the dinan piggy pack unit which seems like a very conservative boost gain so it shouldn't affect the reliability much on the proven B58. As you've said, the key is to make sure oil changes are done on time with quality oil. I plan on keeping this car for at least 10 years.
Turbo chargers have been around a very long time in big trucks and other larger industrial diesel engines. I’ve owned an older turbo diesel pickup for a long time, zero turbo problems. Clean oil and permitting a couple minute cool down before shutting the engine off when you’re running down the highway, are key steps to make turbo last.
Mercedes SL65. 2009. Twin Turbo V12. Yeah it’s just like you said: both oil and liquid cooled. Yes I do the warm up and cool down periods. In the winter it gets a freeze plug to keep the coolant at 68°F. After starting the car, I don’t drive until the oil temperature display stops blinking at 80°C [or 176°F]. I take that signal as the engineers allowing the engine to say it’s warm enough to drive. Like you said, all to prolong the life of those turbo bearings.
Just glad to get more info on this m139 engine.
Good advice. Well done, sir.
Great video! Thanks!
