Laced with several high level concepts such as where we came from, our purpose in the universe and the chaotic nature of life, it has a lot beneath the surface. Throughout the film we follow the crew of the Prometheus though the most interesting of them isn't exactly human. Michael Fassbender plays the synthetic android David who accompanies them on the mission. David is much like the figure of prometheus from myths that has been instructed to act a certain way. Created solely to serve, the corporation has complete control of him. This can even be seen down to the characters fingerprints which bear the weyland yutani logo. Just in the same way Prometheus took fire from the Gods and rebelled against his masters, David uses the black goo to stand against his. Incase you don't know the myths have Prometheus making humanity from clay and mud. However he gave the humans fire which was forbidden. This was something that was supposed to be exclusive to the Gods and they worried humanity would use it against them. Thus Prometheus was punished. There's a feeling with the synthetics that they too could take down us and the fear of AI is something that is rampant in real life as well. This mindstate is also reflected in the humans as well. The movie acts as a cautionary tale of what happens if you do something forbidden by the Gods. This even leads to Holloway being burned with a flamethrower with fire of course being tied to
