Description

This video essay examines who South Park have targeted the most over 28 seasons of the Comedy Central series. South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone use South Park as a way to satirise and commentate on what is going on in society... but as a consequence, they have endured a lot of controversy over the years. This is South Park's controversies explained but also ranking who is their most hated target based on how many episodes they go after the person or group, as well as how harsh they are and the risk they took with their comedy. Isaac Hayes' son has apparently denied that he quit on his own accord, or that he wrote those words. This was done by the scientologists around him. Hayes had suffered a stroke and was unable to make these decisions on his own.

I feel like they don’t hate people, they just mock people. It’s not until this season when I thought “wow they really HATE this person”.

I wanted to add the detail that in their ads on the book of mormon musical's program, the mormons said "you've seen the musical, now read the book" which you have to admit is really clever

14:31 the irony of the censorship was not only that it made the episode more offensive, but it actually reinforced the message they were pushing. It is a meta joke that tone deaf executives considered a fix

The episode about antique shows that scam elderly people was legendary. Stan blatantly calling them "morally empty corrupted maggots" and responding to the threat of a lawsuit with "I don't care what happens to me, I care about my grandfather" hits hard.

Don't forget Phil Collins. They took the Oscar loss to him hard.

4:10 Kanye is so incredibly aware of his issues that here it makes him kinda admirable, but when you see everything he has done it makes those things unacceptable because of his hyper awareness.

South Park just points out the many flaws in society, except they do it in a more comedic and blunt way.

The people they actually hate are the characters, like trump, and vance, who are portrayed using actual photos of their faces.
