Florida Mom Grilled Over Baby Son’s Traumatic Killing

A newborn in Sarasota, Florida was rushed to the hospital unresponsive, and doctors soon discovered devastating head injuries that led to his death, raising suspicions about whether it was an accident or something more sinister. Investigators learned the baby had suffered prior injuries, including broken bones and head trauma, all while in the care of his mother, Lily Scheip, who denied intentionally harming him and cited stress and postpartum depression. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide, and after years of investigation and trial, a jury convicted Lily of manslaughter, resulting in a 10-year prison sentence with credit for time served.
