DOJ Contradicts Itself on Grand Jury Vote for Comey Indictment

Understand the specific procedural contradictions the Trump DOJ made regarding James Comey's indictment and the severe legal jeopardy those errors created for the prosecution.

Short Summary

  • The DOJ reversed its stance within 24 hours regarding whether the revised Comey indictment was presented to and voted upon by the grand jury.
  • Initial admissions suggested the indictment was never properly voted on by the full jury, immediately jeopardizing the case due to the statute of limitations.
  • The department then attempted to correct the record using ambiguous grand jury foreperson testimony, contradicting earlier explicit admissions from its own attorneys.

This analysis unpacks the conflicting filings and testimony from US Attorney Lindsey Halligan and Assistant Prosecutor Tyler Lemons concerning the return of two conflicting indictments and the resulting procedural chaos.

Description

Donald Trump’s DOJ can’t even keep their story straight for longer than a day when it comes to the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey. Lindsey Halligan -former Trump beauty contestant winner now U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia – told a federal judge that DOJ never presented the current indictment to a grand jury for a vote. But the very next day, DOJ filed with the court a claim that actually the indictment was presented to a grand jury. Which version of DOJ’s claims are supported by the evidence? Shan Wu breaks it down. Why are these courts letting Trump's DOJ make a mockery of the judicial system? Just disbar everyone and lock them up, including Trump!!!

So to recap, Halligan has lied at least 3 times to the judge about what transpired at the grand jury hearing! Dismiss the case and send Halligan for disbarment and possible perjury charges!

There is another technical problem. Comey didn't tell a lie.

Judges deserve the torture they get from the Trump DOJ, declare there is no indictment, pound the gavel and end this nonsense. Comey goes free, DOJ leaves with even more egg on its face. Disbarment hearings to follow.

A new Law School Term. To pull a Halligan. You messed up so badly the judge dismisses your indictment.
