πŸ‡²πŸ‡» Street Food in the Maldives: https://youtu.be/X208zbkkmAE πŸ‘‰ SUBSCRIBE for more: https://www.youtube.com/@MarkWiens Welcome to the Maldives! And today we’re in Addu, in the southernmost atoll of the Maldives and we’re eating tuna for 24 hours straight - but in the Maldives you will try some of the best and most unique and varied recipes for tuna in the world! A huge thank you to Misbah (https://www.discoveraddu.com/) and his family for arranging this amazing trip to Addu, Maldives. Breakfast - We’re starting with Maldivian breakfast that just about everyone in the country eats in the morning. Mas huni - smoked tuna, coconut, chilies, Kulle mas - dry fish curry, and Rihaakuru - tuna sauce. After breakfast we drove around and found some fresh tunas straight from the morning catch, and also visited Sinaa (Beat Harvest) at his farm and tasted a variety of unique Maldivian fruit trays with tuna. Addu Bendi - One of the most famous foods from Addu is Addu bendi, a type of coconut sweet made with coconut jelly and coconut water, simmered down with sugar and roasted for hours. It’s then hardened into a candy. Maahere Cafe - Right in the heart of Addu, for lunch we headed to a local fisherman restaurant to eat authentic Maldivian food including lots of tuna, and entire tuna head, and garudhiya - fish broth that’s often considered the national food of the Maldives. Home style short eats - One of the traditional parts of the Maldivian food culture are short eats, little afternoon snacks that typically go together with tea. And you guessed it, many of them are filled with tuna, and they are so tasty you won’t be able to stop eating them. Home cooked Maldivian food - Truly the highlight of the day was having a full home-cooked Maldivian meal including one of the best ever Maldives food called Addu Havaadha - a local curry made from a curry paste of toasted coconut and spices. I’m going to say it’s one of the world’s best ever tuna dishes! I noticed "Markunbe" on your shirt. It's based on a legend/story for kids in the Maldives called Maakunbe, who, in the story, is almost as gluttonous for food as Mark πŸ˜…. The highlight of the story goes like this: He has 12 kids, and all of them married and lived on a nearby island. One day, Maakunbe goes to visit these kids. He goes around the house of each of his kids, and they offer him food. They offered him a few kilograms worth of sweet dish made of rice and an equivalent amount of fried fish. He gulps down the whole meal himself, and this repeats at all 12 houses of his kids on the same day. So after this "small" feast, he goes to the beach and lies down on a bench to stretch his belly. Alas, a single fiber from a coconut husk blew with the wind onto his belly, which ended up exploding his stomach and killing him 😒. Hope this doesn't happen to "Mark"unbe! So in maldives, you maybe called a maakunbe if you eat a lot or have a huge belly

Fun fact in dhivehi there is a different name for every stage of development for coconuts... The stage they use for Addu bendi is called gabilhi which is a slightly mature but not completely matured coconut

Mark and his team be going places that i didnt even knew existed with the residents of these places appearing to be living TRANQUIL lifestyles. On top of them speaking their NATIVE LANGUAGES AND ENGLISH FLUENTLY But that just goes to show that AMERICA ISN'T the CENTER of the UNIVERSE...as a great amount of Americans deem themselves to BELIEVE.
