Why Did Fun American Neighborhoods Vanish? This Might Be The Reason

A diverse neighborhood is where you do not have enough in common with your neighbors to form a community

I’m in my early 30s. I grew up in a neighborhood where all the kids went out and played at the park down the road or we’d ride our bikes everywhere. No one ever got hurt. No one ever got kidnapped. No one ever had their homes broken into. This wasn’t something from the “boomer times”. We had this in the 90s and early 2000s.

I grew up during the 60s and 70s. The women in my neighborhood were housewives/stay at home Moms. Most families only had one car, one black and white TV, one wall phone, no air conditioning,etc. Those were simpler times. All of the neighborhood kids played outside from morning until evening. The women were the eyes and ears of our community. It was safe for children to walk and bike around town. I am glad that I had that kind of childhood. 😊

When I drive around the neighborhoods on a Saturday morning I often just think to myself where the hell are all the kids. Our new world is a nightmare.

I will not support a community that i feel like a foreigner in, especially in the town I grew up in.

If you can't understand how a single city or neighborhood speaking multiple languages is a problem, you're clearly missing the plain and obvious.

It’s true/ I live in a “diverse”‘neighborhood and everyone is separate. It’s because we are in different worlds.

If "diversity is our strength", please explain how this strength is being manifested.

I live in a neighborhood that was recently developed for young families. Our kids disappear outside for hours. Parents update one another via text - we all take turns. It is the greatest blessing for our children.

My kid had a fun neighborhood. It started as a quiet neighborhood where no one came out. I sat in my garage while my kid played, alone, in the front yard. After a few weeks the other parents on my street kicked their kids out the house to play with mine. After a month or so, there was a pack of them running around. Be the change.
