We know they have done multiverse crap in several movies. So. That said ...she's Mary Jane Watson from another Earth, and the reason she has powers is because they're bringing redhead MJ in to be Jackpot

honestly I would be MORE pissed off if it ends up that Jean basically took over Xu'an's role and story due to exemeddling than if it's just them trying to unfittingly shove Jean into a Spidey story
