I Resisted for 2 Months But Finally Gave In
Reviewer Settles Disagreement: Assessing the Popularity of K-pop Demon Hunters
Discover whether this widely popular animated K-pop musical lives up to the hype for a genre skeptic, and learn what social innovations it brings to the theater experience.
Short Summary
- The film delivered exactly the expected experience: beautiful animation paired with catchy music in a genre the reviewer does not typically favor.
- While the main character received strong development, supporting roles and unexplored lore felt underdeveloped, possibly due to budget constraints.
- The movie achieved significant box office success in theaters and pioneered positive social engagement via interactive singalongs.
This review documents the final verdict after two months of viewer insistence, explaining why K-pop Demon Hunters succeeds as an entertaining visual spectacle while failing to convert a noted skeptic into a firm believer.

Oh thank goodness I thought he was gonna say he bought a switch 2
This movie literally got popular because people watched it as a joke and was like hold up this shit is lowkey fire
When it comes to musicals, “I didn’t have a bad time, I was entertained” is extremely high praise from Charlie
I work at a kbbq where one wall of the restaurant is a screen playing kpop music videos. Every time Golden plays (at least once an hour) I see so many tables fall silent and completely turn and lock into watching the screen😂 I haven’t watched it yet, but I’ve learned it’s really worth asking EVERY table if they’re fans, I used to just ask the kids if they were singing along but it’s so cute how people light up talking about how much they loved it :))
Should’ve shared how Sony spent $10 mill produced it, wasn’t confident that it was going to being a success so they sold it to Netflix for $20 mill, now Netflix easily made that back on just their limited theatrical release. Edit: So it looks like the story has evolve over the last week since I first heard, but still inconsistent. The only thing that people are confident on is: Sony spent $100 mil making the movie, but sold the rights to Netflix (unclear if Netflix payed the full $100 mill or only agreed to give the cut of profits). Sonys cut of the profit caps at $20 mil while Netflix gets the rest.
same. my daughter has been pestering me to watch it. 'dad have you watched it yet? have you watched it yet?' just watched it yesterday and now i'm obsessed.
I’m a young black man, and I’m genuinely getting into K-pop bc of that movie😂😂😂.
I went to a sing-along, showing on Sunday, and it's single-handedly, one of the most fun experiences I've ever had in a movie theater. People were singing and dancing and the energy was just amazing.
Plot twist: Charlie watched the movie 2 months ago but he’s waited until now to share his opinion to avoid being crucified.
I was in one of the sing-a-long theatre at a showing yesterday and I was so unsure but wanted to see it on the big screen so I went! I think it helps that I went with a friend, but so many people were singing and it was great to sing together! Felt like a very community based event, which we don't have a lot of in my town!
