Wes Ball, who also directed The Maze Runner trilogy, really understood the assignment here. What I loved most about this one was that it didn't try to upstage the reboot trilogy, which is impossible, of course, but rather use it as a foundation to put the franchise in a different and necessary direction. I'm really anticipating/dreading what comes next.
At the very end, the person on the radio said he was from Fort Wayne,Indiana. That’s where Taylor (Charlton Heston) told Cornelius that he learned to read and write.

This film did really well imo. Introducing a new main character and making him instantly likeable and understandable in motives and wants. Not an easy task given who the last main character was and how popular Cesar was
On rewatch, I love the tears in Mae's eyes when we first see the "herd" of humans. It could easily be misinterpreted as relief with seeing more of her kind, but knowing the truth adds a depth of context that is phenomenal
