The older ape who died in the bed was played by Charlton Heston, Taylor the astronaut from the 1968 version. Also, most people dislike this one, but I like it. Thanks for giving it a chance.

Yes, the first "American" in space was a chimp named Ham. After his flight, he was retired to zoo life. Also, apes in general are much stronger than men. This is true even for chimps who are can rip bodies apart bare handed.
