As a linguist, this is so interesting to watch. They're trying to describe that the Japanese R sound is an alveolar tap. That's to tap the tongue to the little flesh bump behind your teeth, before the roof of your mouth. A Spanish (or any non-French Latin based language) R is similar (as a tap), but on the roof of your mouth. They're wrong about the English R, which doesn't actually touch any part of your mouth. That's why it's such a hard consonant to teach or learn. The English L can actually have the tongue touch most places from the back of your teeth to the roof of your mouth, but must be held in place with the sides pulled in. But great job and thank you, this is an excellent example of phonetics and phonology in practice without requiring so many complicated terms.
