THE BATMAN (2022) IS ACTUALLY THE BEST DARK KNIGHT FILM?! MOVIE REACTION!! Full Commentary
Deep Dive on The Batman (2022): Cinematic Execution and Mythos Evolution
Analyze how The Batman masters detective noir aesthetics, weaponizes shadow, and successfully separates Robert Pattinson’s tortured Vengeance from prior Batman interpretations. Gain clarity on the powerful, tactile visuals and the film’s unique place within the larger DC cinematic legacy.
Short Summary
- The film strongly adopts David Fincher’s visual style, establishing Gotham as ugly, palpable, and corrupt, setting it apart visually from Nolan's interpretations.
- Robert Pattinson’s Batman is defined by internal monologue, physical violence, and a singular focus on vengeance, contrasting sharply with the future need for the "Bruce Wayne" persona.
- Cinematography, particularly the intentional use of high-contrast lighting and The Volume technology, elevates nearly every scene to the level of a painting.
- Discussions highlight the nuanced performances, especially from Paul Dano’s Riddler and Colin Farrell’s Penguin, who were perfectly suited to their respective roles.
This analysis breaks down the technical brilliance and thematic weight of Matt Reeves’ vision. We examine specific creative choices, such as the use of Nirvana’s "Something in the Way," the portrayal of Year Two Batman as an awkward detective, and the groundwork laid for future DC continuity.

Hearing that Batmobile start up in the theater was straight music to my ears
When I first watched this with a friend who didn't know Batman, when Batman first showed up she was completely scared of him. The same way you're scared of a horror killer. She asked me if he was killing them too. It made me so happy that Batman was actually just scary
This movie is one of those movies that will age like fine wine because its just so goddamn gorgeous visually. So gritty, so raw, a mixture of 60's - 90's thrillers.
I really like that Batman works with the cops. They don't like it, but they allow it. Him walking down the hall of police is one of the coolest parts.
YES BABY THAT'S WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR.
"He moonlights as a cop." One of my favorite lines in any Batman movie.
I always loved how the man he saved in the beginning was afraid of him but the woman he was carrying at the end clung to him.
I'm pretty sure it's implied that Riddler was in the childrens choir that sang for Thomas Wayne when he announced the renewal fund. That could be the Ave Maria connection
I was blown away by this film in the theater. I don’t think that Gotham has ever felt so alive and fully realized. It feels like a terrible place that has been through hell. The focus of the detective aspect of Batman was so good to see and was done so well. I am really excited for part 2.
