People with schizophrenia can live normal lives. It’s unfortunate the brother wasn’t diagnosed sooner, but I’m glad OP is alright.

Second story, there was actually another update from them near the start of this month. It's OP talking about how it really hit him just how out of touch he was with his kids' lives and has made the big change to way more involved in his kids' lives. He's more or less become the primary parent and has gotten more flexible with working from home. He's also been handling registering his son for kindergarten and his daughter's school life. Seems like he learned his lesson.

Second story. If your kids don't notice your absence then that means you were already absent

It’s quite baffling how a lot of schools either do not take bullying seriously or they do but also punish the victim in the process.

It turns out the wife was having to go to extra efforts to include OP in their kids life. Sending the kid to try to get him to read a bedtime story wasn't a "game" it was legit, unless OP was told to be a dad, he just did his own thing. OP didn't pick up his own kids from activities unless reminded. And I can almost guarantee any time he spent watching them, he considered babysitting, when it's really just parenting. All the wife did was stop the extra effort she was making to remind someone they were a parent with responsibilities.

Wow… this update really shows how unfair the system can be. The bully only got real consequences once the principal’s own granddaughter was targeted. It’s frustrating to think your daughter had to suffer longer just because she wasn’t “connected.” At least now he’s out of her school, and I love that your kids are doing taekwondo — that’s such a powerful confidence boost for them!

The parents in the first story aren't clueless. They knew something was up with their son. They just didn't want to confront it because they're scared that their kid might not be all there. And to them, being diagnosed with anything is worse than him being "normal". They prefer not to deal with it and will make any excuse to justify why their son is acting strange

It sucks that the lesson the bully learned wasn't "don't be a bully," but rather "bully easier targets."

Teacher here. Anyone who says you can't discipline students for behavior outside of school - absolutely not, especially if law enforcement is or can be involved. And consider this guy could have gotten a TRO, this principal could have found herself on the other end of a lawsuit for not protecting this kid.
