At a bar once, My sister and I saw a guy pinch his fingers together and do something that looked like sprinkling something over a girl's drink in the split second she had her head turned to talk to someone. We rushed over and told her and told the bartender what happened. Apprently they knew each other, and he claimed he was just joking around. But like, joking around for who because it wasn't like he was snickering to anyone?? So yeah, moral of the story, cover your drink at the bar! It's not offensive for someone to protect themselves. EDIT for more context: TL;DR she didn't drink it! I was trying to avoid writing a novel and make the concise point that if people you know can be weird, covering your drink around a stranger really isn't that offensive. Apparently people are filling in the rest of the details with an assumption that she ignored us and that he successfully drugged her so read below for the full story lol I made it over to her and told her what I saw and not to drink it. He had a second to deny he did anything, then claim he was just pretending, but the bartender fortunately made it over pretty quickly after my sister alerted him. She immediately handed the bartender the drink and the bartender told him to gtfo. That's when thr dude argued that they know each other and said again it was all just a joke. The bartender was like, well we don't joke that way so kick rocks. Dumped the drink and made her a new one in a clean glass. We didn't chat a ton but she was really sweet and thankful. She was really annoyed with him but idk if she fully believed he actually did put something in her drink, but she wasn't going to take any chances. I hope her and none of her friends hung out with him ever again!

so i have a friend who recently got married, it was really important to her husband for them to have the same last name, she didn't want to change hers because she had a lot of publications already under her name, so you know what? He decided to take her last name. He just wanted the two of them and their future kids to share a name but it didn't have to be his, and he fully understood it was important for her to keep the name that was on the publications

I completely agree with the woman on keeping her name. I knew a comic book artist that when she married she took her husband’s name and used it on her earlier published works. Her husband divorced her and sued her for the rights to her earlier works and won in a court of law. Jokes on him, even though he technically owns her earlier works, she went on to become a comic book artist for marvel and published with her maiden name.

With the drinks story, I've explained it to guys by comparing it to gun safety. Treat every gun like it's loaded and you'll never accidentally get shot. They seem to understand that analogy pretty well.

I run a small business. I had an ‘influencer’ leave us a bad review once because I wouldn’t let her record during the workout class. Besides the fact that you shouldn’t be recording a workout class with other people in the room, this particular class just so happened to have been a women’s only class so we had a number of women who would usually be clothed in certain modesty attire, but because this was a safe private space they felt like they could dress more comfortably for a workout class and if this influencer had recorded them and posted them online, they’re privacy and they’re modesty would’ve been compromised.

My first husband strong armed me into changing my last name to his, even though I said I wanted to hyphenate. I gave in, but I shouldn't have. I couldn't put it into words then, but it felt like he was trying to erase my identity. Surprise! My first husband was emotionally abusive. I'm now remarried and back to my original last name. When I told my dad what I wanted to do, his smile was priceless. (I've realized I'm actually a bit traumatized from being forced to change it, that's why I didn't want to hyphenate this time.) I'm so glad she stood her ground!
