Veterans Demand Accountability: Congressional Insiders Blast Political Weakness Amid Budget Discrepancies

Learn why two Iraq War veteran representatives criticize Senate Democrats for a weak healthcare concession and accuse politicians of easily spending trillions on the military while counting pennies to care for the veterans they sent to war. Discover the specific legislative fights shaping voter demands.

Short Summary

  • Democrats accepted a "weak" deal during the government shutdown that conceded key healthcare agenda points.
  • The Republican defense budget is scrutinized for trillion-dollar waste, contrasting sharply with the fight for earned veteran benefits.
  • House inaction has resulted in seven weeks without any representative votes or official committee action.
  • Constituents demand representatives stand firm on fighting for essential needs, rather than surrendering principles.

Reps. Chris Deluzio and Pat Ryan discuss the fallout from the Senate caving on healthcare negotiations following a recent budget standoff. They argue that political leadership disconnects from the needs of ordinary Americans—especially veterans—created the space for divisive figures to rise. The congressmen detail rampant contractor waste in defense spending and reassert that their constituents demand political fighters who will deliver on earned benefits, not those who collapse positions.

Description

“A lot of politicians who voted to send guys like us to places like Iraq, spending trillions, all of a sudden want to count pennies when it’s time to care for the veterans they sent to fight.” Rep. Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania and Rep. Pat Ryan of New York, who are both Iraq war veterans and members of the House Armed Services Committee, talk to Jon Stewart about how the Trump administration prioritizes a trillion dollar military budget over the livelihood of veterans and service members. They also point out where Democratic leadership is lacking, especially after the party’s “weak” concession to end the government shutdown without any gains for their healthcare agenda, and how Americans across the political spectrum are asking for representatives who will fight for them when it matters. #DailyShow #Veterans #Democrats Subscribe to The Daily Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwWhs_6x42TyRM4Wstoq8HA/?sub_confirmation=1 Follow The Daily Show: Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheDailyShow Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailyshow Stream full episodes of The Daily Show on Paramount+: http://www.paramountplus.com/thedailyshow Follow Comedy Central: Twitter: https://twitter.com/ComedyCentral Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ComedyCentral Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/comedycentral About The Daily Show: Jon Stewart and The Best F**king News Team host The Daily Show, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program analyzing the biggest stories in news, politics, and culture through a sharp, satirical lens. Wow! How refreshing to hear two politicians speak so openly and not from a set of talking points.

The real reason nothing gets done in Washington: because Big Money wants it that way. Any candidate not vowing to GET MONEY OUT OF GOVERNMENT does not deserve your vote.

"It's not red vs blue. It's billionaires vs YOU." Both sides are guilty of not doing away with the big money infecting our politics.

I have called Chuck's office 5 times since last Friday. Urging him to not let the party cave in the Senate. Making the case for the leverage of the situation.... Now this. He has to go. And all 8 Democrats that flipped need to go. VOTE THEM OUT! Edit: I forgot that some of the 8 aren't running again. And the others aren't up in 2026. But even still, the primary ones who do run again.
