We need cameras. We can not rely on a journalist to tell me not to believe my lying eyes. I don't want someone else's spin - I can think for myself. There are ways to just use wide view of court room, or during victims witnesses keep camera off their face (as you would for a child). Keeping the public blocked out only leads to more speculation & lack of confidence in law enforcement or a fair trial.
The defense is spicy. I have to say that BK is definitely getting a thorough and rigorous defense. Should he ever need to make an appeal in the future, it won't be because of his lawyers.
Here's the thing...Not allowing cameras in the courtroom isn't going to stop everyone from reporting/commentating on this case. What it's going to do is increase the misinformation that gets put out there because people are going to report based on 2nd & 3rd hand info. If I was the attorney arguing for cameras, my argument would be "BUT Your Honor, ALL Your Friends Are Doing It!" Lol
All the secrecy surrounding this case is why there is so much misinformation. That's why everything about this case has gotten so sensationalized. Adding more secrecy is just going to make it worse. Anytime I talk to someone about this I always go back to the JD/AH trial because it's such a great and recent example of why cameras in the courtroom are so important - I mean, here we are, over a year later and various media outlets are still trying to spin that trial into something it wasn't and the only way we know what really happened is because we were able to watch it all via cameras in the courtroom. While I prefer it to be live streamed, I think keeping it to a delay is reasonable - it'll ensure that any media outlets playing the video have ample time to blur out anything that should be sealed from the public (autopsy photos, crime scene photos of victims, etc. - the general public doesn't need all that).
How do “the people” know “we’re good without cameras” when they cannot see for themselves that justice has been done, not only by the outcome but the procedure.
Replay Crew here. Thanks for this Emily. I don't think anyone trusts the media. I feel like cameras keep the media honest as much or more than the attorneys and the court.
Ever since Depp v Heard, I will never again take the media’s version of how a trial is playing out. I think me and tens of thousands of others.
Emily, I love how you called out X, aka Twitter @ 54:40… “I’m letting you know now I’m going to be calling it Twitter…” I LMAO’d!!!😂😂😂
I find it *_incredibly_* alarming that a judge is considering the removal of camera... mainly due to the public having opinions and discussing a case. That's a freedom of speech issue, that a judge is putting forth. Along with claiming that the media covered cases, too much. It's very bizarre that a judge would think he could control public opinion at all – let alone, by limiting public access to public trials. Ironically, the judge just gave a prime example of *why* it's so important to have camera within all court rooms. Without this public access, we'd have no idea about such an inappropriate and bizarre suggestion.
I think we should have a default headline ready to go from now on: "Judge afraid of cameras in courtroom. What is s/he trying to hide?" Just have it queued up and ready to go for every trial where they want cameras removed...
