Automattic had some great points about people profiting and not paying back enough but their insane behavior cemented this judgement for them
Prime you should get a green hoodie to just be a head and hands, please
8:01 Automatic: "we're going to do material harm to them, and here's a tracker showing the amount of damage we're doing." *sued for material harm Automatic "Whaaaa?!"
9:00 imagine literally tracking the financial harm you are causing someone else lmfao
Mullenwegs behaviour can almost only be explained by him dating Heather Brunner (WP Engine CEO) and she dumping him or something. It is so crazy.
9:00 imagine tracking the financial harm you are causing someone that is currently suing you
It seems like after the WP Engine CEO refused to sleep with him, Matt reacted badly, thinking "WTF, they're running a business because of me, and I'm the genius behind everything, how dare she refused." On a serious note, It's heartbreaking because my livelihood as a plugin developer mostly depends on WordPress.
It's too late. I've been working on a very large (for me) project using WordPress and ACF as the backend. When the WP Engine drama started I didn't think much about it. But when I had to check a box promising I have no association with WP Engine I thought uh-oh, this ain't good. When I learned that Matt commandeered ACF, that was to much. I immediately began rebuilding my backend without WP and there's no way I'm going back.
Mullenweg forgot that "benevolent" is a necessary part of being a project's BDFL.
Mullenweg has a classic "You made me do this to you" villain arc
