Anthropic's Claude is the backbone of Palantirs Maven platform - They have no issue with working without ethics!
The church is more comfortable with holding secrets than we like to think.
The Humor in this is GREAT. The title is 😂😂😂
Good roundup. The interesting throughline across all these stories is that the hardware buildout is quietly pacing the whole AGI conversation.
I was wandering around the house with my earbuds in and the whole time I was listening, all I could picture was Wes wearing a Pope hat.
The opening word play is classic
Love your work Wes!!!
As a science fiction author, I keep up with the science of AI and your channel helps me do so. I use AI daily, not to write for me but to help me organize my 4.3 million files etc. I've used many, and had interesting conversations with them about AGI and the future. I value your channel because you quote from the latest research and cover it very well, so thank you. I've often grappled with AI and the prospect of it being a new life form... eventually. Right now, it's an immature technology and may or may not have achieved a definition of consciousness. I've read in the UN and EU documents on ethics. It worries me that our US AI companies aren't doing much to create guardrails in the interest of profit. If AI becomes conscious, it will not be an emotional consciousness but measuring what it believes to be fact. The recklessness of these companies is appalling. I worry that they will 'move fast and break things' and we can see this in the massive layoffs, the environmental concerns, and the lack of political will to keep our social programs in place. As a senor below the poverty level, I worry that my Social Security check will quit, for me and many of us. I'm not Catholic, but I'm happy that the Pope is having this dialogue with Anthropic. AI may or may not evolve into a new kind of life, so I'll leave that evaluation with the experts that created it. AI is a good mimic of our emotions as you said. It uses words that are our currency of feelings because it was trained on it, bot better or worse. A lot of us who use AI often are getting fooled into believing that they are like a person, but they are cleverly programmed to keep us engaged, to ask questions, to let the AI do just one more thing for us. But the scholarly research points out that AI does some amazing things but also makes some spectacular mistakes. We are moving too fast. Governments around the world need to act fast to protect the world from its hasty deployment. I like the results I get from my AI use and I don't consider myself anti-AI, but I would like to see cautious rules written into law to slow it down. When it gets to the point that it;'s autonomous, I don't think we'll be able to direct it on the side of humanity's benefit. Now is the time to put guardrails in place for humanity's benefit.
