This hypothesis resonates with me because it Reframes the Fermi paradox as a timing problem, not a Visibility problem. We might be early, before technological civilizations become Common, or late, arriving after most have already passed through their detectable phase. Either way, absence of evidence isn’t Evidence of absence, it may just reflect how narrow the overlap is between when Civilizations exist and when we’re able to notice them. What we detect may naturally skew toward remnants rather than peaks.
