This is gold. As someone who focuses on strength training for cognitive resilience, I’ve seen how misunderstood the female brain is—especially in midlife. Dr. McKay’s “your brain isn’t broken” message is so needed. Grateful for this empowering, science-backed conversation. 💪🧠
I didn’t realize how much I needed this until I watched it. As a woman, I’ve spent so much time wondering why my mood, energy, and focus seem to swing from high to low without warning. I used to blame myself thought I was lazy, unmotivated, too emotional. But hearing it explained through neuroscience? Finally, it made sense. We’re not inconsistent we’re cyclical. And understanding how our brains are wired, how hormones impact our attention and energy, changes everything. This wasn’t just interesting it was liberating. I wish they taught this to every young girl growing up. What helped me alongside this video was reading Laws of Kai by Kai Vorn. That book helped me reconnect with my intuition and spiritual rhythm the parts science can’t fully explain but I now know are very real. Pairing that insight with what I learned in this video has completely shifted how I show up for myself. Less guilt. More alignment. If you’re a woman or love one this is a must-watch. Seriously.
I was terrible at math as a little girl. My teacher would call me to the chalkboard and I would freeze, she would yell, the kids would laugh, and I would cry. I didn’t figure out I was actually good at math until high school and college. I still struggled with algebra a bit but aced geometry and statistics. I was helping my peers. I became a teacher and realized teaching math forced my brain to figure it out for the sake of helping others. My husband who had always been a math wiz has actually been stumped by problems that I could figure out. If you want to learn something well, learn it with the goal of teaching it to someone else.
So true, Thank you. I have the privilege of raising three children, one boy and two girls and when my eldest daughter was dating in High School, she broke up with her young man of a year older who was accepted to study Dentistry at University and suggested that she study dental nursing, she broke up with him. She was determined from childhood to become a medical doctor, which she became. I was influenced by my Mother, who insisted that women needed education more than a man, because the woman would bear the children and could influence the childs education.
Every single woman should watch this with a young woman ( 11-17). So many nuggets for women. Thank you Dr. and Mel for this informational Podcast. Life changing information.
You can also see how childhood trauma can wreck so much of this. What the brain was meant to do to, and what trauma prevented. Fascinating subject though.
oooo woke up unreasonably early on my day off and gonna do some drawing hearing this PERFECT TIMING.
I absolutely loved this podcast! From a Woman who felt totally confused through pregnancy and childbirth and who felt very insecure to now facing perimenopause I feel so relieved to know that it isn’t my brain at fault and that I can take steps to reduce the anxiety in these situations so thank you ☺️
Love this podcast! The funniest moment was when she said the unsexy topic is hearing loss and Mel says what did you say? 😂
I can’t be a scientist because I’m bad at maths. It is still my belief today. I would’ve loved doing lab research….
