There was one story, I don't remember if its one you read, where a father took his young baby daughter out by himself and then a lady just snatched the child and claimed to onlookers that the girl was hers. Despite his protests and attempted reasonings, the father was beaten up and the child snatcher was allowed to walk away. I think the police came and initially sided with the woman. The father did get his daughter back though.
