I suspect our first contact will be with aliens responding to a RUSH concert laser show in 1987.
Maybe a very persistent alien planet kept sending earth signals for over 200million years. Lost on T Rex’s and brontosaurus.
“Hey! We’ve discovered alien signals! And deciphered them! Aaaaannnnndddd….. it’s an ad for ‘all natural male antenna enhancement pills’.”
I wish I had longer to live, so that I could hang around to see more of the results of our astronomy efforts. Just in my lifetime, so much new has been learned.
Since the WOW! signal didn't pan out, now we have to look for the HOLY CRAP! signal.
So there’s this episode of Star Trek Voyager where they find a truck floating in space, and when they bring it in, the radio in the truck picks up a radio signal in Morse code. Captain Janeway asks why Voyager didn’t pick up the signal and the truck did, and Harry says it’s because they don’t monitor radio frequencies since they use Subspace, which can send signals faster than light. I’ve always thought, after seeing this episode, that might be why we haven’t detected alien radio transmissions: they’re using something else to communicate, so they may not have picked up our transmissions, and we haven’t picked up theirs.
I miss watching the old SETI at home screen saver.
All the smart aliens are hiding from the Borg.
I honestly think aliens are smart enough to not contact us because of how absolutely dangerous it would be for us.
Love this channel.
